On Saturday September 13 Whats4dinner and The Friends for Life Foundation are once again having “Friends for Dinner”, a special dinner program to benefit breast cancer patients and their families.
We need your help. Our last Friends for Dinner enabled us to provide over 100 dinners to families whose loved on is going through breast cancer treatment, however; unfortunately the list keeps growing. Each contribution of $100.00 will enable us to provide a week worth of meals for the Friends for Life Foundation. Please consider giving that amount. Because Whats4dinner will provide a matching dinner whatever you give is multiplied. There is no better way to see the effect of your donation than to stop by on September 13 and meet some of the recipients of the meals provided. The Friends for Life Foundation, based in Commack, is a unique breast cancer support organization, dedicated to providing positive nurturing support, educational programs, understanding and friendship to breast cancer survivors, family members and caregivers. Together they share their knowledge, experiences and optimism with those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and are undergoing treatment. The Foundation also spreads awareness to its members and the greater community by providing free services and educational programs featuring highly trained and respected professionals in the areas of integrative medicine, pain management, nutrition, exercise, meditation and a host of other topics. Meetings are held in a comforting and welcoming home social setting, where speakers, survivors, caregivers and volunteers learn, share, laugh and offer their emotional support and understanding to each other. Friends for Life Foundation's Service programs include free exercise and yoga classes, free house cleaning and babysitting, free nutritious meals as well as transportation to radiation and chemotherapy appointments. The Foundation's on line web site also offers registered members the opportunity to develop relationships with breast cancer survivors, ask questions and share experiences. This mentoring exchange has been a valuable resource to those who can't attend meetings or who need some "TLC", encouragementa and understanding during a difficult time. Recognizing the special needs of children, the Foundation created a Kids for Life program where children are able to communicate and bond with their peers who are facing the same challenges and emotions in understanding the changes in their daily routines, via a special "kids on line messsage board", which is overseen by a licensed family therapist. The Foundation believes being educated about breast cancer is essential for prevention, care and recovery. It's web site offers a wide range of resources, articles, support groups and services to assist in getting members the information and help they need. |
